Cognitive Skills Like Iceberg

Why Knowing Students’ Cognitive Skills Matters

A recent article in District Administration magazine explains how schools are using the Mindprint Cognitive Assessment to help design interventions for students, tailored to their individual cognitive profiles.

Katie Novak, assistant superintendent at Groton-Dunstable, MA schools, who was interviewed for the article, characterized the simple strategies Mindprint provides as low-hanging fruit in helping students with academic performance.

Christine Wickemeier, head of the Walnut Hills Student Success Center in Cincinnati, OH, explained that the Mindprint technology enables teachers and students to adopt the best strategies for each student without needing to the know the science behind them.

We would suggest another analogy  that of the iceberg pictured with this post where the part of the iceberg that’s under the water represents the cognitive processes that contribute to academics but that are difficult to see if you’re only looking at academic data.
