SUMMARY OF FINDINGS
This analysis looked at pre- and post- cognitive assessment results for 60 students with uneven cognitive profiles. Despite having well-developed skills in some areas, these students all had weaknesses in one or more cognitive skill that was the likely cause of academic struggles. The students all participated in comprehensive integrated cognitive training (CICT®) for 12 to 14 weeks.
Students experienced meaningful growth on average across the ten cognitive skills measured, including raising scores from the weakness range to the middle of the average range for 8 of the 10 cognitive skills. The number of cognitive skills in the strength range doubled and the number of cognitive skills in the support range was cut in half for these students.
These findings suggest that understanding the pattern of strengths and constraints within a student’s cognitive profile may be more informative than relying on overall averages alone. When critical bottleneck skills improve, students may be better able to access and demonstrate abilities that were previously masked by cognitive inefficiencies.
