Friends Share Brain Patterns

Researchers have been exploring the ways our brains respond in social situations and have found that our brains activity predicts a number of things. A recent study shows that the pattern of brain activity in the brains of friends is more similar than the brain activity of two people who aren’t friends. Moreover, they found a correlation between the similarity of the patterns of brain activity and the social distance between the two. That is, friends have more similar patterns than friends of friends, and friends of friends are more similar than those who are two degrees removed. In this way, our social networks closely mirror our neural networks. The scientists who conducted the study were not able to determine whether there is any cause and effect relationship in either direction.
